A gathering of cousins.

August 2018

I’ve been harvesting, shopping and cooking for this lil cousin party tonight. I’ve enjoyed every minute of it. There is something about cooking delicious food that gathers and brings joy to the hearts around the table.

I’ve been thinking about cooking and my ancestors. What were there signature meals and favorite offerings? What do I carry with me that was part of their cooking practices?

It’s always been a difficult thing for me being so separated from the cultures in my ancestry. They seem so far away yet I sense them within myself. The only person in my life I can connect with when it comes to cooking is my father. Arden says his Papa is the number one best cook in his life. Quite a compliment . I came in second.

I put so much love and intention into the food for today’s gathering of loving souls. Local beef burgers loaded with marjoram and garlic scape pesto, all the fixings of course with freshly made mayo and pickled things, a monstrous salad from the garden full with every color of the rainbow, a chard, eggplant and chanterelle stir fry with tamari, local pork sausage with bacon and cheese, a bottle of white wine and of course gluten free brownies with raspberries and whip cream.

Looking forward to sharing this meal at this table with people I love.
