When the land holds you.
August 2018
When the land draws you with no map to guide you, when it holds you through, heals and mends you. You begin to listen in a deeper way. You begin to trust more in the intelligence and wisdom of the sentients. You slowly begin to open and expand like a flower itself, some days this feels like physical pain and other days it feels like it’s lifting you off your feet to dance lighter on the earth.
In your deeper listening you begin to see and hear things you never noticed before. Like how the crickets sing the loudest chorus after a heavy humid rain. It so loud it’s startling, yet you just listen. You can hear when the trees are saying the rain is near. Everything feels closer, the clouds in the sky, the planets, the electrified air. In this listening you can feel what the sweet doe grazing in the field is offering you, a better harmony and gentleness to life.
I began this listening as a small child. Through my eyes everything was alive. Now in my deeper practice, the most powerful thing I’ve ever done is to let go of all preconceived notions on what is alive or sentient and how it “should” communicate, and allow myself to fall deep into connection with the land. Through all my dis-ease this has been the most potent medicine. We all have this ability as this was very normal for our ancestors.
When I think about how to share this in a teaching environment of sorts my head begins to spin at where to start so for now I’ll keep going deeper and see where it takes me.
