A Ritual for the New Year

Are you planning a restful night tonight on the New Year?

I find that as I grow older the idea of staying cozy with my family and finding small but meaningful rituals is the way I like to acknowledge the shift from one year to the next.

I happened upon a documentary earlier today which discussed that the proportions of our solar system is incorrectly portrayed to us in all written and illustrated forms, and a group of scientists created a project to construct the actual proportions to help us get the proper visual of just how incredibly large and vast our solar system really is. In order to create this to scale they needed an open, empty space in the desert which consisted of a seven mile radius. The space between planets is so much larger than we know!

You ever have that sensation when you learn something so new and profound that your brain feels like its contracted in some weird and magical way? Yeah, that is what I felt as I watched these men create this new visual for us all to understand with more accuracy.

For me, the year 2023 was a bit like this sensation. It shape shifted me on so many levels and in so many timelines. I learned more than I could imagine about the physical body, how it heals, what it tells us as practitioners, the insane resilience people are capable of, and how truly, and I mean truly, holding space for a body on my healing table can bring forward a kind of magic I never would have imagined on my own. We are such incredible beings!

This year has asked us to allow deaths. Deaths of the deep inner holdings of our wounds. So, we have experienced some gut wrenching losses physically and emotionally. Many of us have felt as if we are coming up for a breath after a battle we weren’t sure we were going to make it through. But we did make it and we should honor this with a ritual that feels right to us.

Release Ritual for the New Year

Maybe you already have a yearly ritual that you like to do, in that case I am simply here to encourage you recall that ritual today and in the days to come.

If you need one to bring forth for yourself and your family today I just want to offer you a very simple offering.

  1. Write down on a piece of paper all of the things you wish to leave behind. Write them in detail, mean it, knowing that these things will never return. Things like ugly habits, things that are unhealthy, and parts of you that you are ready to be free of.

  2. Once they are all written down, either make a beautiful safe to burn cauldron with some dried herbs, an abalone shell, or burn this paper in your wood stove fire and sprinkle some herbs in as well. Adding the herbs will amplify your intentions and offer this up as a true spell. Always remember to add, for the good of all and the harm of none.

  3. On a new piece of paper write down all the things you are ready to bring in. Some examples, a heart that is open to receive love, all that you truly deserve, that your body is a wellness machine, and so on. Again, writing in detail is key and mean it.

  4. Fold up this new piece of paper and tuck it in a safe and hidden place with dried herbs of choice and perhaps some small stones or crystals. A place that you will forget about it. This is to support you to really let go of any outcome and to also find it a year from now and reflect on what you brought into your life in real time.

This is a simple and loving ritual that anyone can do every year, but it is also very powerful. A ritual my Auntee Annee once taught me as a little girl which gave me hope in a messy world. Just remember the perspective shift with the solar system, that everything is so much more vast and limitless, that there is so much more we can know and reach to. We can do so much more than you think, so allow it to shift.

With love and magick in the New Year to all!

XOXO
