Rising Through Shadow: The Return of the Dark Goddess

I believe we are in the time of the goddess—the dark goddess, that is.

Dark goddesses are not truly dark in the way we typically define it. They transmute, alchemize, and reject the shadow. They systematically break the shadow down piece by piece, limb by limb, for one cause only: to restore justice, to extract hatred, harm, and especially abuse.

The archetype of the dark goddess has been infused in me since before this life. When we experience the horror of the shadow—the depth of its violence and cruelty—we are given an opportunity to choose. We can join the shadow and continue to move it forward generationally, or we can choose to dismantle it.

The choice to dismantle comes with all the risks, fears, and strong emotional turbulence of a rough, rolling sea. It may even toss you around quite a bit as you move through the toil of shapeshifting out of shadow and back into crystalline light—unbreakable yet tender and wise.

You see, each dark goddess has a harrowing story of her journey. She has endured pain, suffering, abuse, and death maliciously inflicted by the toxic masculine and the dark sorcery of abusive male archetypes.

I can see her now, being released into the deep waters of the sea, sinking deeper and deeper into darkness, knowing she will drown—accepting the fate that was thrown at her. But then, there is a little flicker of something inside her. Maybe the spark is lit by rage; I am not sure. But it’s there, and it slowly becomes brighter and more expansive. In that moment, she is faced with a choice: to grasp the light. And not only does she grasp it, but she finds a way to defeat the shadow with her own alchemizing, destructive forces. She does this for the greater good—for the deep feminine love for all that lives, moves, and creates.

She is fierce and feared by many, but loved by all the women who know what she did and how she represents all that we need now. She rises from the turbulent waters of the sea, reaches to the heavens, and breaches the shadow fearlessly.

Maybe nothing is ever fixed or fully healed. Maybe peace is something we will always strive to obtain. Yet the practice and presence of being with and within the frequency of the dark goddess is more comforting to me than ever. I keep her with me in every step I take—when fighting the fights, when my warrior dress must be worn, and when I speak for those more vulnerable than me, human or wild animal.

I keep her fire and fury right within my heart, where I can reach for her, knowing she will carry me through the shadow. I call upon her fearlessness in my actions to transmute, alchemize, and heal. I hold her in deep gratitude and love her as she should have been loved.

May we all feel the dark goddess rising within.

love,

Diana
